Testing USB cables for FERRUM

Mouse not passing through FERRUM, or the board missing in the Ferrum Utility? A quick way to find a bad USB-C cable on your second PC with a device you know works.

Do this test on your second PC. You don't need the main PC or the Ferrum Utility for it.

If your mouse doesn't work through FERRUM, or your board doesn't show up in the Ferrum Utility, it's usually a cable. This finds the bad one in a couple of minutes.

First check FERRUM is wired the right way, as in FERRUM setup.

Test them

  1. Find a USB device you know works and that has a USB-C port on it, like a mouse that charges over USB-C.
  2. Plug it into your second PC with one of the cables and check it works. If the mouse moves, that device, that cable and that USB port are all fine.
  3. Keep the same device and the same USB port, and try your other cables one at a time. If the device stops working with one of them, that cable is bad.
  4. Use the good cables for FERRUM. If a cable from our box is bad, tell us in a ticket.

Cables are fine but it still doesn't work

  • Plug FERRUM's left cable into a USB port on the back of the main PC, not a front or top case port.
  • Go through FERRUM troubleshooting.
  • Still stuck, or stuck on any step here? Open a ticket in our Discord (how to open one).
