MewTools card errors (MT-101 to MT-114) and how to fix them

Every card error code in MewTools, from no DMA card found to a slow speed test, with what it means and the steps to fix it.
Guidephantom · 2 reads

These are the error codes MewTools shows while it checks your DMA card, reads its DNA ID and runs the speed test. Find the code or the message the app gave you, and the fix is under it. Words in curly brackets, like {name}, get filled in by the app with your details.

Two things fix most of these. Keep the main PC on, because that's where the card gets its power. And plug the cables into the rear USB 3 ports of your second PC's motherboard.

MT-101: No DMA card found. Plug in both USB cables and try again.

The app can't see the card on either cable.

  • Plug both cables into the second PC, the data cable and the JTAG/flash cable.
  • Use the rear ports on the motherboard, not the front of the case.
  • Check the main PC is on, so the card has power.
  • Still nothing? DMA card not showing in Device Manager goes through the rest.

MT-102: The data port is not seen. Check the data cable.

The app sees the card, but not on its data port. That's the port your software and the speed test use.

  • Unplug the data cable and plug it into a rear USB 3 port.
  • If it still doesn't show up, try another cable.

MT-103: The JTAG/flash port is not seen. Check the second USB cable.

The second cable, the one for JTAG and flashing, isn't seen. You only need it for flashing and for reading the DNA ID, so if you're doing neither, you can ignore this.

  • Plug the JTAG/flash cable into the second PC.
  • Check the main PC is on.

MT-104: The data port is seen but its driver is not working.

Windows sees the data port but the FTDI driver behind it isn't working, so nothing can talk to the card.

MT-105: Couldn't recognize this card's chip ({chip}).

The app read a chip it doesn't know.

  • Make sure it's a supported DMA card.
  • Check the JTAG/flash cable is pushed all the way in.
  • If it's a card from us, open a ticket with the summary.

MT-106: Could not read the chip. Replug the card and try again.

The app reached the JTAG/flash port but got no answer from the chip.

  • Make sure the main PC is on, so the card has power. If the card isn't flashed yet, keep the main PC in the BIOS. Don't boot Windows with an unflashed card in.
  • If your card has a kill switch, check it's on.
  • Unplug the JTAG/flash cable and plug it back in.
  • Check the CH347 driver on the Drivers screen. If it's missing, see MT-203.

MT-107: Could not read the DNA ID.

The DNA ID is your card's own ID. We need it to build firmware for your card.

  • Keep the main PC on.
  • Unplug the JTAG/flash cable, plug it back in and try again.
  • If it keeps failing, open a ticket with the summary. Your DNA ID explains what it's for.

MT-108: The speed test failed. The card did not answer.

The data port is there, but the card didn't send anything back during the test.

  • Turn the main PC fully off and on again, then run the test again. A restart isn't the same, see cold boot.
  • Check the card sits fully in its slot on the main PC.

MT-109: The speed test is slow ({speed} MB/s).

The card answers, just slowly.

  • Use a rear USB 3 port on the motherboard.
  • No hub in between.
  • Use the cable that came with the card.
  • Low DMA speed has every other cause.

MT-110: The card is on a USB 2 port. Move it to a USB 3 port.

A USB 2 port is too slow for the data port.

  • Plug the data cable into a blue or red rear USB 3 port on the motherboard.

MT-111: The card is plugged into a USB hub. Plug it straight into the PC.

A hub between the card and the PC slows it down.

  • Plug the data cable into a rear motherboard port, with no hub in between.

MT-112: The speed test pack is not downloaded yet.

The speed test needs its own pack the first time.

  • Open the speed test and accept the license once.
  • It downloads by itself from the official sources and gets checked before it's used. You don't need to get anything yourself.

MT-113: The DMA test pack could not be downloaded or failed its check.

The download didn't finish, or the file didn't match what it should be, so the app didn't use it.

  • Check your internet and try again.
  • If it keeps failing, open a ticket with the summary.

MT-114: Could not copy to the clipboard.

Windows didn't let the app copy the text.

  • Try again.
  • Or select the text yourself and press Ctrl+C.
