We tell our customers not to play Zero Build tournaments or Zero Build ranked cups in Fortnite. We think they might work like a honeypot, a place where cheaters get caught. That's our opinion from what we've seen, not something Epic has said.
For which builds work on Fortnite and what tournaments need in general, see Fortnite DMA.
Why we think that
- Customers got banned after them.
We've had customers get banned after bad placements in Zero Build tournaments. - A normal rule is turned off.
Epic normally wants you to play about 14 tournaments first. For Zero Build events that rule is turned off, and that's part of why they feel off to us.
We can't prove any of it. It might be how those events get checked, or it might just be a coincidence. We don't know how Epic's anti-cheat works in there, and we're not going to pretend we do. We've just seen enough that we'd rather you stay out.
What happened when I queued into one
This one's mine, Kolpy from the team. I queued into a Zero Build ranked cup by accident and hit a bug I'd never seen in years of playing Fortnite.
- In the pre-game lobby everyone was slowed down, and the keybinds were reversed.
- On the Reload map the battle bus flew into the map.
- People were stuck gliding in place.
- The drop glider timer showed 25 hours.
Here's what it looked like. I blurred out the player names.

The map. The drop timer says 25:56:03 and the bus is already over the island.

Everyone stuck gliding in place, timer still over 25 hours.

Still stuck in the air, now over the beach, with the bus right above us.
It could be Epic testing new anti-cheat features in those cups. It could be a coincidence and just a weird bug. I honestly don't know. It's one more reason I stay away from them.
What we tell you
Just skip them, it's not worth it. If you're not sure about an event, ask on the support forum before you play it.
You don't need an account, this tells us what to write more of.
