No, a DMA card doesn't lower your FPS in any way you'd notice. It doesn't draw frames, and nothing of ours runs on the PC you play on. The software does its work on your second computer. The few things that can affect your main PC come from where you put the card, not the card itself.
Why the card doesn't cost you frames
- It doesn't run anything on your main PC.
The card reads memory over PCIe by itself. Your processor and graphics card keep doing what they were doing. - The heavy work happens on the second computer.
Reading the game's data, working out positions and drawing the overlay all happen there. That's why the second computer needs 4 cores and 8GB of memory, not your main PC. - It uses one PCIe lane.
Your graphics card uses its own slot and lanes.
The things that can affect your main PC
- A slot that shares lanes.
On some boards, a short slot shares its lanes with an M.2 drive or a second slot. Putting the card there can switch off a drive or drop a slot's speed. It won't touch your graphics card's slot on most boards, but check your manual. Which slot to actually pick. - A card that isn't flashed.
Booting Windows with factory firmware can cause problems. Flash it first. Main PC Setup. - Security settings a game asks for.
Some games ask you to turn on things like Memory Integrity. Those are Windows settings, not the card. Secure Boot, TPM and IOMMU.
Video fusers and input lag
A fuser sits between your graphics card and your monitor, so it's fair to ask. GODLIKE states zero latency on all three fusers we sell. Your mouse and keyboard don't go through it at all. The thing to watch is your mode: if the fuser can't do your resolution and refresh rate, you'll be stuck on a lower one. Best video fuser for DMA shows which one does what.
Aim devices and input lag
Your mouse goes through the aim device, so it's the other place people worry about.
- MAKCU polls at 1000 Hz.
That's a report every millisecond, the same as most gaming mice. - FERRUM polls at up to 8000 Hz.
Only useful if your mouse does 8000 Hz too.
If your mouse feels off through one, it's usually the cable or a front panel USB port, not the device. MAKCU setup and FERRUM not working? cover the fixes.
RDMA is the one exception
RDMA has no card. It uses a driver on your main PC to send memory over Ethernet to your second computer. So it's the one setup where something of ours runs on your main PC. What is RDMA? explains it.
Common questions
- Will my second computer lag my game?
No. If the second computer is slow, your overlay lags, not your game. - Does DMA speed affect my FPS?
No. A slow DMA speed makes your software slow to update, but your game runs the same. Low DMA speed? - Does the card make my PC run hotter?
It has its own heatsink and draws a little power from the slot, like any small card.
