How rank points work on MewDMA

Every member has a score. You get points for taking part, and your total decides your rank. The Standing card on your profile shows where each point came from.

The ranks

Comet is the rank that changes what you can do. From 120 points, links in your forum posts go live right away instead of waiting for a moderator. You can also put links in messages, vouches and your bio. You can also vouch before your account is 3 days old, write 10 vouches a day instead of 3, and start conversations with 25 new people a day instead of 5. The ranks above Comet give your name a new colour and don't unlock anything else. Forum rules explains why links wait.

What gives points

Weeks count from the day you joined, in blocks of 7 days. Posting on 2 days in the same block gives you 2 days but only 1 week. Days are calendar days in UTC.

What a real post is

A post with at least 25 characters of your own words, in a topic that isn't hidden. Quotes of other posts, web addresses, pictures and emoji are taken out before it's counted. A run of the same character, like "aaaaaaa" or "......", counts as one. Only real posts make a day or a week count. Visiting the site, buying, messaging, reviewing and vouching earn only what the table says and never make a week.

Spending counts for less

A dollar is half a point, so a $100 order is 50 points. One reply marked as the answer is 20. We did that on purpose, so helping people counts for more than spending. Only paid orders count, store credit you spent included. If an order is cancelled or refunded, its points go at the next recount. Past $2,000, which is 1,000 points, spending adds nothing.

What doesn't count

• A topic nobody else replied to. It gives nothing until someone other than you replies.
• A fourth reply in the same topic. Only 3 of yours count in any one topic, however many you write.
• Your own reply marked as the answer in your own topic, and pressing Helpful on your own post.
• Follows, vouches and Helpful from throwaway accounts. They only count when they come from an account with a real, confirmed email address.
• Anything in a hidden topic.

Why your weekly points are paused

A week you don't write a real post in earns nothing. After 7 days without one, your Standing card says your weekly points are paused, and they start again with your next real post. Weeks you already earned stay.

A new account on a shared connection

When two accounts sign up from the same internet connection, the newer one earns nothing at first. Its follows, vouches and Helpful presses don't count for anyone else either. It starts earning normally once it's 14 days old and has written a real post in 2 different weeks. Phone networks and shared homes put lots of people on one connection, so this isn't an accusation. If you want it sooner, ask staff and they can allow your account.

Losing points

• 5 points each time a moderator removes or hides one of your posts, topics or messages.
• 15 points each time you're muted or banned.

Anything that gets removed also takes back the points it gave you. A deleted topic loses its topic points, its reply points and its answer points. Staff can forgive a penalty, and your score never goes below 0.

Where to see yours

Open your profile and look at the Standing card. It lists what earned you points and what was taken away, and How standing works has the same table as above. The leaderboard shows everyone. Points change as soon as something happens, and everyone is recounted once a day too.

The quickest way up is answering questions in Help and support, where a reply marked as the answer is worth 20.
